What I’m realizing, and it sounds so stupid but it’s SO true, is that the more you write, the more you’ll write. It SOUNDS obvious, but it works in more than the obvious way. Because when we’re NOT writing, even though we may be called to do just that, what we’re really doing is making excuses. And that works the same way as the writing does. The more excuses you make, the more excuses you’ll make.

I’m sure there’s some complicated algorithm that maps out the exponential growth potential of an actively writing writer, but I believe it can be summed up better with a great quote. Or, at the very least, a well-known one:

Don’t be scared. :) The other thing I realized is that Medium moves at the perfect pace for most of us. Early on, even though you’ll feel like you’re opening yourself up to the whole world, the reality is that not many people are going to see your writing. if you want specific folks to read it, tag them. also, I never used to recommend my own stuff until I realized that was how my story spread. It shows up for people who follow people who recommend it. So to get MY buddies to see my work, I have to recommend it. Otherwise, one of them can do that for me, but then it will go to THEIR people, not mine. And some may be overlapping, but not all.

When i say MINE, by the way, I just mean the writers that mean a lot to me. I don’t own them or anything. ;)

Anyway, as your follower list grows, so too will the exposure of your work. But it will more than likely happen at a pace that will be comfortable. Like a lobster in a pot, just slowly heating up at the same speed as the water…but with a much less tragic outcome.

The story that Danna linked to in her piece above? It was one of the first ones I wrote here. It is also one of the pieces I’m most proud of.

NO ONE read it for months and months. Most of those who did read it did so because I asked them personally to take a look.

So there’s that. :) Let me know if there’s ever anything you’d like me to read and recommend. I’d be honored.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
