Until the world learns to look at this issue from a place of neutrality and focus on realistic compromises and solutions, progress is a fairy tale.

I’m a woman. I champion women who aren’t afraid to stand up and speak their minds about subjects that send me under the covers for fear of retaliation. Retaliation against nothing more than that having had the audacity to express an opinion out loud.

I can also say that from where I sit, the problem is bigger than us vs them; it is bigger than he vs she, or black vs white, or fat vs thin. There is a disconnect occurring at the most basic level of interrelatedness and reverberating out to the most complex.

And it ain’t rocket science.

Somehow, the world has forgotten all those lessons they learned in Kindergarten, about how to socialize harmoniously in a group, and treat others as we hope they’ll treat us, and to put away what we take out, and how to admit our mistakes, and how to encourage our friends when they struggle, and to encourage even those we don’t really agree with , because their hopes and dreams are just as important as ours are…I could go on and on,, but I’ve already got a stomach ache in preparation for having my thoughts on this subject inspected with a fine toothed comb and disproved, line by line, and then for being told what an uninformed moron I am.

Which is fine.

Imma say it anyway, though.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
