Unfortunately by this time, the damage has been done. How many people who read and believed the original article do you think also read the retractions? The story popped in their Facebook feed (for example). But did then the retraction pop up as well? With blaring “HEY! READ ME!!” signals? Doubtful. And even if it did, people are stubborn, lazy creatures. No one wants to have to re-examine an issue they’ve put to rest.

It’s unfortunate, to say the least.
