This is a great letter. It’s time for a letter like this. For the first time in my lifetime (I’m 44), stomping out a good portion of assault and harrassment against women seems within the realm of the possible.

There are, of course, predators of such type as to be incurable. They will continue to reoffend, most certainly.

But I believe that whether they feel genuine remorse for past actions or not, many predators who have up until now been empowered by position, or rank, or finance, and who harass women because they know they can get away with it…maybe they’ll think twice.

It’s a start.

When I saw the ripple effect that started with Weinstein (or Cosby even), I’ll admit I had some anxiety around it. I worried it would become a straight up witch hunt-that there would be Women among us who would lie just to ruin some man’s life, and those women would effectively cancel out any good that may have resulted. But the more I thought about it, I realized I don’t know a single woman who has not known sexual assault in one way or another. Just like I know very few men who haven’t behaved inappropriately around a woman at some point in their lives. I’m sure no one wants his reputation tarnished by a foolish thing he did years ago. And I’m sure there are a lot of men out there who are terrified that their pasts may come back to haunt them. Well, women have been justifiably afraid of men for forever. So I just have one thing to say to the men:

Forgive me, kind sirs, if you feel like you’ve been placed under a microscope. Sorry if you feel targeted. Or if you’re genuinely scared to leave your house.

Welcome to our world.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
