…r speak about gun control, I am called, or denigrated as, some version of a bleeding heart liberal (and to be clear, I’m not even against gun ownership; I just advocate reasonable controls, much like responsible gun owners do). I understand that you’re hurting, is what I’m often told. As if I’m too distraught to think logic…
This. I am still (i know, crazy) amazed at how those opposed put everyone in a box and act like we want all the guns rounded up and incinerated. I think many of us advocate sensible parameters of control: background checks, criminal record checks, waiting periods, etc.)
But we are all treated as if we want THAT GUY’S guns ripped from his arms.
Then there’s the “people who want to shoot up a school will find a way” argument. Maybe so, but do we have to make it so EASY for them? When someone is making that sort of impulse decision, any roadblock that puts time between the thought and the action lessens the chance the action will take place.
I don’t understand why ANYONE would be against that, for ANY big decision.
When you pay off a loan and there is a 30 day waiting period before you can take out another, you have time to reconsider and look for alternatives. No one is freaking out about that.
It’s terrifying and infuriating.
