So many words just to say nothing is always true…which is almost always true.
Impressive the way you managed to completely deny that lands were pillaged and women raped as property all throughout history.
While I’m sure this doesn’t happen 100% of the time, minimizing it as if it is an historically nonexistent event is laughable. My Cherokee ancestor who was raped by my German ancestor, leading, eventually, to me, and the instances of this action leading to…how many of us, do you think? I imagine she would disagree with you. My Alaska Native/Russian friends here in Alaska would disagree.
That women were “taken” by force by men fighting wars all throughout history is well-documented.
But you just go ahead and absurdly rewrite history however you want to.
It doesn’t mean men are all bad, or evil, or wrong, or rapey…and it doesn’t mean a woman has never taken advantage of a man (because I know that’s the next thing on the “I refuse to own this” list), but this is something that MEN have DONE TO WOMEN historically. You can pretend it didn’t happen, but you can’t change that it did. You can only change how you behave today.
Denial doesn’t help anyone. Acknowledging history is how we avoid repeating it. It’s how we teach our sons and daughters differently than our ancestors were taught, and it’s how we evolve as a species.
I hope that if you have daughters (or sons, for that matter) that you don’t do them the disservice of pretending the past was something it wasn’t, or wasn’t something that it was. We have no control over what those men did to those women, but we can change the future for the better by teaching our children the truth, and helping them down a different path.
So, how’s that going?
