No one ( except maybe the Buddha) can be selfless all the time. We all get our turn in that painful place where we NEED other people to lift us up. There is no shame in that. There is no blame. It is human. And remember, when you are willing to let someone in, and let them take whatever piece of your burden they are willing to bear, you are HELPING THEM.

My friend Bill always says that the most selfish act a person can take is to refuse the help that is offered to him. Because that is depriving another person of an opportunity to be of service. And you may not know what their struggles are. Maybe they lost a child and don’t want to go on but they see in you a heartache they are familiar with and that they feel capable to talk with you about, so you will know you’re not alone.

You may have saved that person’s life, just by letting them share your pain.

We never know. Do we?

Do you know why I reached out to you?

Do you know what sharing with you has done for me?

I promise, you don’t. Not all of it.

I knew that I could tell you the worst of it and you would hear me, and know my truth.

NO ONE has been able to see the entirety of what it was like to walk through that hell until now.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
