No, not all aid is just for women. There are six major U.S. welfare programs. They are Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP, food stamps), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Housing Assistance (Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac), Medicaid, and the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Each one is based on income, period. Whether or not one qualifies has nothing to do with gender or being a parent. The amounts change if children are in the household, bc the amount granted is a per person constant, and of course there are different parts of the programs that might serve a certain population and not another, like WIC. But by and large, nope.
Oh, and as a subset of all of that up there, just because a woman is no longer with the father of her children doesnt mean the children NO LONGER HAVE A FATHER. Of COURSE , the first thing to check off the list for the government aid people, regarding low income single parents of EITHER gender, is the enforcement of child support.
Because, (and get ready to have your mind blown!), MOMS have to pay child support, too. Also totally income based, btw. If one parent has primary custody, the non-custodial parent pays support. If the parents have joint custody, the parent with the higher income pays, but a lesser amount. It’s a mathematical equation, and whether you have a penis or not isn’t part of the equation.
Yes, sometimes it is difficult to collect the cs on time. But it is almost impossible to avoid it forever. Eventually, you have to pay the piper. Your wages are garnished. If you get a tax return, they’ll take that, too. They find a way.
And sometimes, there really is no 2nd parent. Maybe they died. Maybe the mom doesnt remember who it was because she was high and he was just one of her Johns. Maybe she has 12 trick babies and no intention of slowing down.
It happens, just like there are people who scam EVERY well-intended idea on the planet. But those people are ANOMALIES. Most people who need assistance are just like you. Just regular people working their asses off to make ends meet. They usually need it for a short time while they pick themselves up and get upright again. They dont WANT assistance, they would much rather be self-sufficient, so as soon as they are able, they live without it.
That is the intended purpose, and for all those it helps in that way, I think we can deal with a few bad apples.
The reason you feel like it’s all women and children getting benefits is because SINGLE WOMEN WITH CHILDREN are the poorest demographic, bar none. Not because they’re sluts, or lazy, or unmotivated, but because a single woman with children is often automatically deemed unable to fully commit to higher profile, higher paying jobs. Jobs a single father with the same, exact experience and education is still considered just as qualified for as he would have been if he were married. And even if the single mom DOES get the job, you can bet your sweet bippy her salary offers start off significantly lower than his would have.
Because that is how our country is set up to run.
(Also, as I stated in my previous response, vasectomies are totally reversible in most cases.)
