My Dad was a proud, card-carrying member of the NRA til the day he died. He had plaques, and awards, stamped with the logo, signed by the Big Cheese.

If he were alive today, he would not be advocating for armed teachers in schools. But he wouldn’t be canceling his membership, either. I imagine that describes a great many NRA members. Unfortunately, in times like this, the more moderate masses aren’t who are heard. The extreme viewpoints get the attention and catch fire regardless of on which side they fall.

The problem is that then, the moderate masses who still keep the extremeist organizations as a part of their identity become symbolic of that viewpoint. They are pushed to sever. But our parents are set in their ways. They are past the time in life where they would have joined the revolution. Now they just want to lead their quiet lives.

And we should let them. This is not their fight. Or their fault.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
