Just to come from a different perspective, as someone who was trained as an educator in a different era than the one in which I actually WAS an educator,

I was trained to teach autistic children, or developmentally disabled children, or mentally ill children.

When I taught, I was admonished for these same things.

I was then trained to teach Children with autism. Or children with developmental disabilities, or children with a mental illness.

The words we are supposed to use; the politically correct, or supposed person-sensitive language, is constantly changing.

So thank you for advocating and informing. Please before you take offense in the future, consider that the person you are informing is not being purposely insensitive, but in actuality is Making a deliberate effort to do the complete opposite.

But at some point in the recent past, the winds shifted again.

Try to be patient as we try to keep up.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
