James Comey as Every Woman Defending Herself Against Her Rapist Ever
NO, I guess he wasn’t TECHNICALLY raped
But I’d like to point out a couple of exchanges during his testimony yesterday, regarding his lack of action taken when the President strongly implied he wanted Comey to stop investigating Michael Flynn.
Senator Marco Rubio: “At the time did you say anything about that to the President that that is not an appropriate request?”
Comey: I didn’t. No.
Rubio: “Why?”
Comey: “I don’t know. As I said earlier I think the circumstances were such that I was a bit stunned and didn’t have the presence of mind?”
Senator Dianne Feinstein: “Now, here’s the question. You’re big. You’re strong. I know the Oval Office and I know what happens to people when they walk in is a certain amount of intimidation. But why didn’t you stop and say “Mr. President, this is wrong. I cannot discuss this with you.”?”
Comey: “That’s a great question. Maybe if I were stronger, I would have. “
What do you think, ladies? Sounds an awful lot like victim-blaming to me. Let’s address the fact that NO ONE IS DENYING THAT WHAT THE PRESIDENT DID WAS, IN FACT, INAPPROPRIATE AND WRONG. Instead, we’re just sliding right over that part into “If it was so bad, why didn’t you tell on him right away? You’re a big dude, don’t tell me you’re scared of a little old man like the POTUS!”
(“And also, if you didn’t want to have sex, why did you dress in such revealing clothes and order three martinis?”)
I’m beyond disgusted. But, I’m not surprised. Women have been on the shitty end of this behavior since the beginning of time.
