In a perfect world. But, not in America. That ideal has long fallen by the wayside. The sexual revolution challenged traditional norms, because there were things that needed to evolve and grow. Unfortunately, virginity was a casualty in the struggle for equality. I do see it making a comeback as a valid and acceptable option for high school kids.

When I was in school, most kids who verbalized a decision to save themselves for marriage were teased mercilessly and after a while, basically ignored. I look back now and realize that quite a few of those folks were actually gay, or trans…but you DEFINITELY kept that information buried in 1989. You did your best to pass, you hope no one ever looked at you close enough to figure it out and assemble the mob. Because that is what would happen. Better to be exiled for pledging your virginity than executed for loving another boy.

I think back to that time and I have to pause and acknowledge that though it is painfully slow, we ARE moving in the right direction. Social evolution is almost as excruciatingly formed of the most minute of altered behaviors as physical evolution is formed of imperceptible physical changes.

CHANGE IS SLOW.-- Jewels I thought I moved back over to you but I accidentally camped out on this lovely gent’s response after I finished it. Going to sleep now.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
