I’m actually not from Texas. :)
Hobbs, New Mexico.
I think the Texas state line is about 30 miles away, at Seminole.
I was just there last year for the first time in a long time and it was quite a shock. We left in 83, when the oil boomed. My whole life, Hobbs had been this little-bitty town, run down and shabby and really not much but tumbleweeds and red dirt. But then the oil industry opened up and they had a pretty decent growth spurt after that.
Now it’s deflating again.
El Paso looked pretty bad, too. Worse by far.
I loved Dallas as a kid. My people are in Houston now; I don’t like Houston AT ALL.
As a kid I spent a fair amount of time in the closer cities; Midland/Odessa and Lubbock…
But I’m a New Mexico girl.
I think it’s pretty much the same thing.
