I’m curious to know the extent to which this could have/should have been further explored by the host site. Now that I’ve been debriefed on the situation, I gotta say it’s kind of perfect, if you think about it. Strong, rational, level-headed feminist writes short metaphorical piece illustrating the toll taken by the never-ending, continuous barrage of unearned, unwarranted, unwanted expectations placed on women (just because they’re women and God Damnit, they had better show some goddamned gratitude for all we men do for them. Because…well…we can’t come up with that information off the cuff like this, but it has always been this way! They should know how to behave within the constraints of our ideas about who and what they are).

Man is impressed by this piece, which of course means that he must possess it, claim it, make it his own--steal it. And then manage to use it to both gain credibility as a writer AND to undermine and criticize the very person he relieved of it

Huh. Criticism gussied up to look like praise: amateur hour, it’s not. This man knew he could do this to her and there was really nothing to stop him. Nothing except for a conscience, basic human decency, and an ability to empathize. He chose to utilize none of those skills, which just confirms the original author’s whole point.

Which he STILL didn’t get.

Smh.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
