This was perfect. I love that you are unafraid as I cower in your shadow, building my courage up little by little while I ride your tiny coattails.
I believe in four main things (with lots of little subthings I won’t go into here):
- You should treat others the way you want to be treated, but do it knowing that it ensures nothing. In the end, some people will treat you however you allow yourself to be treated, regardless of anything you do.
- As you quoted the great Dr. King, “hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” Most days, I try to meet calamity with serenity but some days I can’t help myself from verbally cockslapping some particularly insufferable idiot, and I don’t apologize for that. Usually. So, I’m human.
- Our tragedies become assets when we live through them and use what we have learned to help others when they cross that road. And I think that is the ONLY way that we redeem our deepest pain or conquer our greatest fears. But sharing is all that is required. What the recipient does with what we share is irrelevant.
- I only control my attitude and my behavior. NOTHING ELSE. So when I choose to get all upset about something someone else says or does ( and I DO. All the time.), that is on me.
