Great article.
I was talking to my Mom a while back, after a trip to Salvation Army in search of an enamel-coated cast iron dutch oven, about this very subject, and the concept of hand-me-downs and our obsession that everything we own be previously untouched by another owner.
About how much PERFECTLY GOOD STUFF is overflowing our landfills.
About how if we could get over ourselves, we probably wouldn’t need to buy a new anything, ever again.
Never gonna happen.
We are not going to roll this consumerism back. We are going to use it to destroy ourselves completely. I wish it wasn’t true, but it’s just starting to gain real momentum. Little kids and their iPhones and their gps trackers and their smart-ass attitudes.
Sigh.
