Fantastic piece, Gail Boenning . Like an heirloom recipe, the perfect mixture of family history and life lesson to pass down the generations.

After a lifelong fear of baking, I have started just trying recipes. Things Ive always wanted to try, like the tres leches cake I’m cooling right this minute! Things my grandmother made. Foodstuffs that fill me with nostalgia. Stuff I see on cooking shows that sounds good or looks pretty. I have all the tools at my fingertips, and though I often fail to get it just right, I almost never fail to make it tasty. We may have to scoop it up with a spoon and I rarely have pretty pictures to show, but I’m loving the messiness of it. I love the mixing and kneading and folding and tasting. I wish I had ALWAYS made the pies. ❤

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
