Emily Friedel I believe that when someone writes an article about a personal experience, in hopes of either finding kindred spirits who understand what you’re going through, or in hopes of sparing others who are going through what you’ve already been through that feeling that no one understands,

YOU ARE A FORCE OF GOOD IN THE UNIVERSE.

People who then use your own experiences to beat you over the head with either have no lives of their own, and therefore live vicariously (with heaps of condescension) through yours,

or they are just sad, pathetic souls who feel better by making other people feel worse.

Unfortunately, those people will always come out to fortify themselves by trying to make you feel less-than.

Remember the ones you are writing to, or for. There are millions and millions of poor parents, single and married. Some knew they were poor and still had kids. Some were victims of circumstance after the fact. It does not matter. All of us trying to raise our families while we live hand to mouth hear your cry and recognize it and share in your triumphs and your fears.

Just ignore people who want to try and tell you how you’re doing it wrong. They really should be looking in the mirror.

We ALL should.

I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up, but I know I want it to be spelled right and punctuated correctly. I guess that’s something.
