Clearly you’re a man, never been married. Try being divorced , in your forties ( I’ve been divorced since I was 37 and I’ll be 43 on Saturday) woman who already has a family ( two children ). Then, the high cost is NOT getting married.
I have no desire to marry again, but I think we won’t make it if I don’t. Not because I need a man to support me, but because I need someone to split the rent.
My rent on a 775 sqft 3 bedroom hovel is about 100 dollars less than my ex-husband and his 2nd wife’s mortgage on a 4 bedroom, 3-story, 2000 sqft home with a fenced front and back yard and a 2 car garage. They make, together, almost 4x what I make on my own.
There is something really wrong with that math. I don’t make enough to get a home loan on my own because the mortgage calculator says I wouldn’t be able to afford a mortgage payment 2/3rds as large as the rent I’ve paid faithfully for 6 years now.
Never mind I’ve disproved their perfect calculator.
I feel absolutely forced to find a man.
Sorry. This all came up today and your article was perfectly timed.
I’m not saying your points aren’t valid, just adding a few more.
