AJ Thompson, you are SO good.
I had some trouble identifying why I liked this so much, as it resonated with me on so many levels.
The tone was seasonally appropriate…for obvious reasons. I got genuine goosebumps towards the end.
As a child raised in the midst of alcohol and drug fueled domestic violence, I identified with the secrecy and the mixed feelings of despair and relief that come when the abuser is no longer a threat.
My just-turned-eleven year old son is also very much the protective type, primarily of his mama.
Most people call him Alex, but on my side of the family, he’s always been AJ. :)
